What is your favorite 35cc engine?

Hi Westcoaster, sounds like your bike is definitely off to a good start! What hp is that Tanaka? Considering we are only allowed 30 mph on level ground, your bike is currently operating perfectly.

I have the Tanaka PF-4000 and literature says its 2.2hp. I'm using the GEBE kit and do like it for its simplicity in design and look (at this time, I didn't want something resembling a motorcycle). So far it can easily cruise between 17mph - 22mph. Opening up the throttle and it'll speed up to 25-28mph (not including downhill which does increase overall speed).

With the GEBE rack mount, I had rotated my Tanaka PF-4000 further away from the seat to make room for a seat pouch (to hold my bike tools, etc). Since I read that the engine will perform better when positioned closer to the seat, I removed the seat pouch and repositioned the front mount bracket to bring the engine closer to the back of the seat. Managed to hit 30.3 mph with the GPS on fairly level ground (not going downhill). Seems to do 20-23mph pretty easy now with only 3/4 throttle. Still, it falls well short of the 38mph I've seen mentioned for this engine. I weigh in around 170lbs, but, throw in the weight of the bike, GEBE wheel , accessories and maybe non-optimal GEBE alignment, and I guess I should be happy to get the speed I get.

I've got the Honda gx35 & a Tanaka pf4000. both exceptionally
reliable performance-wise. I think the sooby and the honda are
pretty evenly matched. I've heard the Honda does better in a
wet climate, And that's definitely what I've got here in the Pacific
Northwest. I like the extra power of the Tanaka, but the stock
can is LOUD & there doesn't seem to be an easy way to tone it down.
As a result I don't think I've got more than 20 hrs. on it in the
year I've had it. It's not terrible if I keep it under 6000 rpm,
but over that I can't really enjoy it the way I'd like to.
The little Honda's another story, really quiet. I don't really
care about going much over 17 mph. Putting along at 14/15
let's me enjoy the countryside. Still the added power of the
Tanaka is good to have in steep terrain.

I have a 49cc on a bike rear mount, don't know who makes it. It's China made works fine. Comes from a place called That's Dax, Good people.

I didn't have much luck with one of those, but then I didn't get
it from Dax. I wish I had. There are half a dozen factories putting
out the Hua Sheng. I think Dax's arrangement calls for better quality
control than some of the other dealers. The Hua Sheng is
actually better adapted for a bike than it's parent Honda GX50,
though mine, when I could get it to run, was heavy and unwieldy.
I gotta stick with my little GX35. It's never let me down.

Hi, I am very careful about what I say because I told the truth in my opinion on another forum and was thrown under the bus. Sometimes the dollar is more powerful than the truth. I just hauled around 120 lbs of food home behind a 66cc Dax motor, on a Schwinn trailer. The girl cashier asked why I had a bicycle helmet. I'm going to take this home on a bicycle. (I left out the motor & trailer part). I have to have some fun.

It's happened to me on more than one occasion. I hear you.
Don't let it stop you from telling the truth. Eventually those
upset will get over it.

Thanks Brother, The way I see it being 58 years young, been riding since 5 years old, I am here for the enjoyment of the craft. Anyone who says building a Mb is easy is being some less truthful than they need to be. I don't pretend to know everything, no one I know ever has. I Own M&S Motorized bikes. I am retired! No Workie, no mo. I am happy to help others that do not have the knowledge I have over many years of learning. There is no school for this. I did it the hard way, have the scars to prove it. Any advice I give, take it, or throw it away. I am the way it is guy. I have been a member here since 08 I think. I also build custom Choppers, the kind you can ride on the freeway. I'm not special, just have bikes running thru my veins.
