well today i finally done it and ordered a 200 watt restrictor kit for my motor to make it legal in NSW Australia (and yes Fabian i know what you have told me that 200 watts is less than useless and thank you and i respect your opinion -its just so dont end up coming home with a $1000-2000 just for traveling responsibly on a MB), and to go with it Ive laybyed a new bike to go with it. do you guys think it would be a good bike to motorized http://www.kmart.com.au/product/southern-star-700c-metro-road-bike/121676 -also its got a fixed sprocket on the left side with 18 teeth on it. just wondering if i could use this if i shorten the chain and if i could find a replacement at a bicycle shop to find one a bit bigger.

it will be interesting to see how well the restrictor kit works.
The fixed gear cog on that bike is too small and will result in gearing too tall to be useable with your engine.
You would need a jack shaft to get ample gear reduction with a 16 tooth rear cog.
I don't recommend the bike in your link because it is fixed gear. Fixed gear + motor = pain
I rode (non-motorized) fixed gear for a few years and would not try it with a motor. Coaster brake or SS is OK.
I would choose a fat tire bike with strong brakes. You will be hitting the potholes at higher speed and with more weight.
I envy you for having a Kmart nearby. They can be very hard to find in the states.

and when you have achieved a suitable gear reduction, the bike will travel at a speed that's slower than walking pace - might as well just start walking from the word 'go'

For sure the tickets for over capacity/over wattage will be at least $2,000.
Unfortunately in Australia the law doesn't allow a useful amount of internal combustion engine power, so you are forced to operate your bike as a criminal by working outside of the law to get any level of useful motive assistance from an engine installed in the bike.

Every day i ride my bike knowing that it will be an exercise in setting fire to at least $2,000, just to ride my motorized bicycle in a responsible manner.

in my area (macarthur/Campbelltown area in NSW Australia) there are quite a few kmarts around. Fabian you wont believe this but my bike with the restrictor kit has reasonable power. i can get up to about 20kph which is good enough power for me,but with saying that if you were to connect a small trailer (like you have) then thats when the trouble starts. and thanks wheel bender,taking a second look at the box its a filp flop style meaning its got a fixed sprocket on one side and a freewheel on the other. ill give it a shot and if it dont work ill give the jackshaft a go.heres someone that has done the same bike as me and the same idea- http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-retro+motorised+bike/k0.and i envy you that you have easy access to American made motorised bike parts. they are the best.

200w isn't actually that bad for putting around, I have a 100w scooter that pulls me at 15-20kmh and I'm sure I can squeeze a bit more out of it.

So what happens, it just bogs out/stops revving after 20kmh?

If I were you (or someone who needs power like Fabian) I'd make a secret little lever that stops the throttle from being pulled all the way. If they actually take it to a dyno and check for wattage, which is a 1/10000000000 chance, you can just make this switch, or just screw something up inside the twist grip before you bring it in. (Assuming they don't take it on the spot).

If you keep it under 40-50kmh on the straights I doubt any cop would suspect you of more than 200w, assuming they even know how fast 200w is!
