Starting a build in a few months, need advice.

I am planing on building a 4 stroke motorized bicycle sometime mid 2015. I want to use a 2015 Schwinn coffee but I am open to recommended bikes for a build. I do kinda have my heart set on the Schwinn coffee and it looks like it could be a good engine fit without being to tall for me. I am pretty short (5 feet 7 inches) so I don't want a bike that's exceedingly, uncomfortably tall like most motorized bikes seem to be. and from what I've noticed it looks like they wouldn't need that big of a frame size. just seems like more extra unneeded space and frame height. I've ridden on a motorized bike that was to tall for me and it wasn't a very comfortable ride especially during stops and red lights. What 4 stroke bike motors are legal in California and what are reliable brands? I'm looking for something in the 50cc range. (the most common size anyway) So any experts on motorized bicycle building would be appreciated.

I'm going with the Phantom frame. I'm thinking about painting it flat black and getting red rim cruiser wheels to give it that 50's hotrod look. How should I go about mounting a rear rack to that frame? I kinda need a rear rack.

It is a little longer than the GT2-A and perfect for a 2 or 4 cycle engine. I was going to build my second bike from the ground up but in the end decided to start with a complete bike. I'll make enough changes and modifications to call it my own. Either way would should both end up with a great looking and good performing bike!

I'm getting the frame soon this month. I'm ordering it from phantom bikes. I only gotta pay $100 and my uncle is paying for the rest. I checked how much a frame is and it would have a grand total price of $312.24. I can also have it painted soon to. But I'm waiting till the weather starts to get better in January before getting it painted. Can someone recommend some good wheels? I might just have to go with a set of 24's preferably with red rims and black spokes.

After seeing my new bike today, I can say without reservation that it's one of the best frames you can find! I know you'll have a great time building your bike! You can see more of my new bike in the Album section of this site.

So Since I'm getting the phantom ghost frame, can someone provide me a list of parts I would need to build a bike from a bare frame?

I compiled a list of everything I wanted on my next bike and I considered the 2 cycle and 4 cycle. I spared nothing on list and I was scouring the internet for prices, which change daily, but the list still works. It is a good starting point! I have list in an Excel and PDF format but those formats can't be uploaded here. If you email me at jhammond.cpa@gmail.com I'll be happy to send either to you. You can also go to my personal area on this site at jhammondcpa and I can add you to my private email. BTW my new assembled bike arrive Monday December 1st, 2014 and is already being modified! Pictures are in my Phantom Ghost 26 album!
Good luck and stay in touch!

$265 for a frame without even rear brake bosses for anything?
Pffttt...
The GT2 is $99 delivered now at gasbike.net and what I diagramed in my pic that was used above.

This is how the bike came out:

That is the 4-stroke frame version, I think the 2-stroke version would better for 2 oor 4-stroke as it has an S downtube for more room.

5'7" is smallish but it's your inseam inches that matter, just check you pant size, that is the saddle to ground size you want.

Those pictures show the 4 cycle engine with the Jack Shaft which I have not done, but many people speak highly about those kits. I may do a Jack Shaft on my new bike, but I am sticking with the automatic for the time being and no clutch. I know prices change daily on the GT2-A frames, but the quality difference is amazing and while the Phantom frame is made for 26 inch X 2.35 inch tires it might be a Little large, but you can do 24 inch tires which would bring it back to a good fit. Of the whole process, 1/3 of the fun is planning, 1/3 of the fun is building and 1/3 is riding. Enjoy each part!

24" wheels would lower your seat 1" but rob you of the ride bigger wheels provide, heck I like 29ers for direct drive 4-strokes, they have the low end grunt to get them rolling and once going you get a nice smooth ride and more top end, but that is beside the point as the GT2 won't take 29" wheels.

If you want any brakes best plan ahead for 24" wheels as any frame bosses won't work.

Now I'm toying with the idea of a 4 stroke stretch gas bike. Saw one the other day and it looked epic! Now I kinda want a stretch bike. Can a 4 stroke motor be fitted onto a stretch bike? I also want to mount some saddle bags on it to. Cargo is kind of a must for my build.
