Brakes Who is using disc brakes and what kind?

Avid Elixr

I am using the Avid Elixr 160 kit mounted on a third party fork adapter bracket. I really like the brakes because they can haul my 400lbs from 25mph down to 0 in 125ft. I can squeeze the lever much harder than that but i have torn my wheel from the fork under emergency braking with this setup.

It is really best to use a front fork with disc brake bosses and a wheel made for a disc.

Bolt on stuff may be dandy for pedal biking but I don't think I'd trust them for MB speeds, there is a tremendous amount of force on disc brake parts, especially at the speeds we can reach.

1. I agree with you.
2. That's why my bike will remain mechanically limited to 25mhp
3. Without axle retainers I could tear the wheel out of the fork regardless of how the caliper is mounted.

400 lbs?
That isnt all you is it?

I am thinking more along the lines of a 3rd part 'bolt on' caliper coming loose and binding your front wheel to a dead stop.
There is no happy ending with that scenario.
