Hi,

I'm looking for a motorized bicycle kit with the following features:

1. 50cc or less.
2. Have 1.5 or less horsepower.
3. Have a top speed of 25 miles per hour.
4. The bicycle must still be capable of being operated with pedals only.
5. Have an automatic transmission

Where can I get such a kit? I tried google, but I did not have any luck. Also, all the kits I am seeing online have a clutch lever that ship with them. Am I right in saying that all these kits have manual transmission motors?

Thank you for your input in advance.

get any old 48cc kit and buy one of the centrifugal clutch kits. If it goes too fast (it may or may not, depending on how much you weigh), install an ATV throttle with a throttle stop screw.

49cc HS 142 4-stroke engine with a 4G transfer case.
A tad more HP than the limit but otherwise just right.
Bicycle Engines is an ad sponsor here, they have $299 kits.

As for the bike a big cruiser, I like Micargi's, for a decent ~$200 - $250 bike that will fit a 4G kit.

I have some I have built here if you want to look.

Good luck with it!

Go to a pawn shop and buy a nice bike for a $100 or so, remember you can negotiate the price. Then buy a HS 49cc from Gasbike for $129, then get a quality friction kit from one of the 3 vendors who sell good ones. You'll have all that you asked for except 1 more pony to play with. $350 or so and your cruising.

Primetime, I see you are in PA as am I. They don't seem to actually care too much here, and even if you are looking to legalize your bike as a moped in this state you have a long, expensive journey ahead of you. I've looked into it and decided that it wasn't worth the hassle, I am moving in a few months anyway and just use the bike to commute back and froth to work.

Just ride safe and stay out of people's way. If you're not riding like a maniac i doubt you'll be stopped by police. I've ridden past several who don't care here in Allentown.

One other thing that comes to mind on the 'legality' issue.

The mere fact that a bike has a clutch doesn't necessarily mean that shifting gears is mandatory.

You see where I'm going? Most of these MB laws state that the bike cannot require the rider to change gears. My bike, for instance, has a clutch yet it doesn't require me to change gears.

I'm well aware that this might be interpreted differently and that a big debate over it could happen. Also, one never does know just how a judge in a court would actually rule.

But I can see an argument that a clutch does not make these bikes illegal by itself.

But, just as RumblingV8 mentioned, the police just don't seem to care about us when we behave like responsible members of the traffic community.

Ok. Great, thanks for your input guys. RumblingV8, it's nice to see a fellow pennsylvanian on this forum. I'll follow your advice and thanks. :)

What is your budget?
How much do you want to spend?

Would a friction drive work for you?

A build or kit based on 35 cc Honda GX35 or Robin Subaru 35 would fit what your specs.
