I am putting together a Staton friction drive kit on my bike. I am using the Honda GX 35 four-cycle engine. Should I use TruFuel's ethanol-free
4-cycle fuel for my break-in period?

Any pros and cons?

Thanks.:devilish:

Honda is the best 35cc 4stroke motor for the money, it's lack of torque is it's only negative. R/S is better but the price for the better performance isn't worth the cost for the money.

Wow, the R/S motor must be something, then, because I was thinking that my little Honda motor had decent torque. But, since this is my first engine on a bicycle, I do not have a whole lot of experience. Today I rode it for 30 miles bucking an 18-knot headwind, and managed to go between 15-25 mph, depending on the terrain. So far, I am enthralled by the Staton friction drive and the Honda 35.

I just wish the motor had a bigger fuel tank. It's no big deal, though. I usually refuel about midway into my ride.

RS EHO 35 1.76 Nm /5000 rpm

Honda GX35 1.9 Nm /5500 rpm

Honda GX35 has more torque.

On the dyno the EHO didn't make more power than the GX35 it never will.

That power measurement on the Honda was taken to SAE J1349 standard, the RS was not.

I pulled the specs from the factory service manual.Honda rates the GX35 at 1.9 Nm. The EHO is also short on displacement. It is 33.5 not 35cc where the Honda is actually 35.8cc

The Honda CR is 8.3:1 measured.

RS has a long history of misleading advertising, such as having a cast iron liner, there is no such thing in the EHO 25 nor 35.Its not a bad engine, just not better than the Honda.

Though I understand what you're saying, I don't think dyno accounts for all the extra varibles in real world application.I've read it here and elsewhere, on a FD the EHO is more powerful, and quiet. Also I've never seen the EHO with pics of holes where the rod cracked and blew through the side.If they cost the same , I'd go for a "pre fukishima" RS-EHO35.

"if its on the internet, it must be true"

Dynamometer testing is the great equalizer. It does account for all the variables. You are welcome to do your own testing instead of parroting what was "read" on the net.
