Seems I have started a good thread, that said more input and please reference the opening thread.
For you who have responded, I mounted a front side pull brake before the engine went in and it works.
Being 65yrs old I am trying to take a bit of shock out of my riding experience and improve my braking
at the same time.
I am a motorcyclist with a 1950 FL Harley and a 1979 BMW RS/80 so I just want empirical data to work with.
Tom from Rubicon

I am 61 been riding motorcycles none stop for over 45 years. Here is my only transportation besides my motor bikes. I do no own or want to own a cage I just do not like them and been the way all my life. Here she is 116.000 miles just broke in. She and I have ridden to and back all but 5 states did Alaska in 2005 a little over 10,000 miles in just over a month.

When I started on this 1946U 74 flat head with two wheel hubs and a gasket kit. She was my main transportation for years.

Still hoping to get some input from MB riders using Monark springer's with disk brakes on a Huffy.

Wish I could help. I am going to order a brake caliper like you posted this week. Thanks!

What springier do you? I have a Schwinn with a springier and even thaw it is not disc I have seen people put friction brakes on them. Yes I agree a front brake is needed even thaw I have well over a gallon throw mine with out a front brake that is the next thing on my list. Here is a picture of a spring like mine with friction brakes I go off eBay. Let us know what you come up with.

Nice looking rig.

No that one is not mine but this is. I have the brake caliper you posted on the way.

Oh that was me. No problem man. Take care. I hope it works for you.

No problem. If you look in the picture you thought was mine you will see it has a friction brake caliper on it. This is why I was using this picture to show a springer like mine.

45U,
In 1970 a fellow apprentice got me started on the one piece at a time and I went steady at it for about 6 months. Knucklehead frame and a bunch of other gunk as we called back in the day. Then I saw an advertisement in the paper.
1950 FL $750.00, there and then I ceased to try the nickel and dime approach. It just didn't work where I lived at the time "Illinois". My down fall was the sellers advice to keep it stock. My foolish intention was to build a chopper.
That $750 grew with NOS parts from an old Indian/Harley dealership in Chicago. And as the 74' wasn't going fast enough so on Christmas Eve 1974 I bought a Chicago Cop servicar and another basket trike. Good story eh?
