looking for answers to leaky gas cap (may 20th, 2016)

has anyone had problems with leaky gas caps? i have had three different sized stock tanks (now i have a 1 gallon tank) and all have leaked from the gas cap. i changed caps, used double gaskets and i'm out of ideas. i'm ready to go buy a peanut tank for a real motorcycle and be done with these stock pieces of crap. any ideas?

I have the same problem and all I do is not fill it up all the way. I might try to double the cab gasket since I have several spare caps. If this does not work then I am thinking the cap breather is not working properly as it is suppose to leave air in keep it from going out or the fuel system would vapor lock. I all so line all my gas tanks to keep the from leaking and keep the rust out.

Mine does not leak bad even if I fill it all the way but I do not want any leak. Very well could be the vent in the cap not working properly.

I've heard more commonly the tanks leaking around the studs on the underside of the tank. I think sometimes it's just the nature of the beast when it comes to little things on these kits. If it's just a small amount like drops of splashed overflow I personally wouldn't worry about it. Now if it's dripping off the tank and is a little more than a dribble, you might want to remedy that somehow lol.

yeah it's leaking pretty bad. every time i hit a bump it works it's way out under the cap onto the tank. i replaced the cap once on another tank and it didn't fix the problem either.
i'm gonna go over to the dirt bike shop and see if they have a cap that will work for me and if not i'm gonna buy a peanut tank from them and fix the problem forever, i don't know what else i can do and having fuel splash on my crotch is not acceptable but i appreciate the ideas and hopefully someone has a good fix for me

i personally haven't had leaks around the studs and that is probably due to not over tightening the nuts which i did replace all of them with nylok nuts. i have however replace two for other riders who didn't know any better. i still have those tanks and may repair them sometime when i get a minute to do it. i will use gas tank putty, that stuff works great on cars and truck even if they are leaking you just mix the two part putty really good and slap it on. leak fixed that simple

mine all leak i put 2 tank cap o rings on and it cut out the fuel no air getting in i did see a pin hole in the side of my cap so i made it bigger and left 2 o rings works good now or one of my bikes got a wrist band / sweat band around the cap thats works and looks cool to

Yeah I sealed my tank straight out of the box, it took three days with three steps but it was worth it. I think I'm gonna try the local Honda shop for a different cap and if that doesn't do it the tank goes.

Darn took me about 4 hours but not working on it all the time as they have to sit much of the time. But I have done many tanks over the years and never run a tank unless I line it first. Harley tanks come linded not like most others brands.
