those black and white pieces, stuff some rope down the spark plug hole instead. ht rings, install them with your fingers. there are plenty of engines you want ring compressors for, china girls just don't need them.

Like I said some can rebuild a motor with vise grips and a screw driver. I did not say you have to have this but I am one that likes to have the right tool for the job at head and these damn sure help keep from bending or breaking a ring. NO the black and white piece is not for forcing rope in cylinder as they are a piston stops! I have seen many a person mess up piston with a hose clamp. Every wonder why some have so much trouble with there little motors and others do have very little if any??????

Please read the whole post before replying. Thanks! They are not for ropes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I sure am not going to use ropes that can leave trash and debri behind! I know some do but some rebuild a motor with a pair of vise grips and a screw drive. Each too their own and I like the proper tool for the job and always have. Yes some do not need to use special tools when they do not know what they are for. I even post pictures and some still get it wrong.

you read HIS post. he said you use rope...INSTEAD of the little black or white bits.
i use an E thread plug or a m14x1.25 tap... each to their own
Might work but rope leaves debri and taps or metal will mark up the piston and other parts. If you screw a tap on a angled plug hole you all so create problems as it is pushing on the tap sideways but whatever works for you. Personally I like to do everything I do the proper way. Might be why after retiring I still have MANY customers wanting me to work on their bikes as they know I am anal about the way I do things and that is why thet keep cuming back after 30 or more years. The piston lock is not the main reason I bought this just one of the many reasons. I all so like to make it easier for myself. Yes each too there own and some can mess up a anvil with a rubber hammer. Then some have no business working on anything mechanical.

Nice looking kit Jeff.
I usually check the burn pattern on the piston for mixture wash and such.
I was stumped by a bizarre burn pattern on a piston my son showed me from his Blaster.
Finally it came to me, he had pulled the flywheel to change timing and I was looking at the rope marks!
My KTM can have major work like a piston replaced with the tools in the fender bag.
I think it is important to be proficient with very little. To be adaptable, and to know what to carry!
Years ago I converted a van to 4x4, then took it and my wife and 4 kids across the continent.

If something broke out in the desert or on a mountainside, I had to be able to repair it.
To learn if I had the right tools, I rebuilt the brakes, hubs, diffs, and stuff with only the tools I was to carry.
Good tools do make the job so much easier, but a good mechanic can manage small miracles!

Steve I do not think a rope will leave marks but when you force it in a small hole to stop a piston it is going to leave some debri. AS you know I do not like any thing in my motor that should not be there. Yes on the side of the road I do what it takes to get home and once home I do it the only way I know and that is the right way. If I walked in on someone working on my bike which never happens and saw them using a crowbar or screw driver instead of the proper tool I would be in jail shortly.

I have had to testify in court to many times do to some others shop work killing or hurting someone. Glade to say in 45 plus years I have never hurt or killed anyone with my work!

Iam shor if you screw in the bit of plastic in and out a lot it to will leave s**t behind or being plastic it might leave half the tool in the motor if it brakes. In the end if the motors are put together and work it does not matter how you got there
