As can be seen in my introduction thread, im new to the forums as well as engines, however i have read alot of jaguar's site and some of the threads here and its hard to keep track of everything. My grubee 66cc motor seems to lack any power above 42kph, four stroking in the high RPM range. So I wanted to not only see, but compile a relatively complete list of free (this includes buying specialized tools or metal, common tools and materials less than a dollar/mod only)mods to ease power and ride comfort. So, help me compile this list? I dont need long technical details on why you should do it, thats what makes things confusing. So far, i have done the following:

Ground down clutch actuator to elliptical shape to alleviate clutch pressure (yes, this helps A LOT)
Adjusted carb needle C-clip (away from pointed end for leaner mixture)

I vaguely recall:
Shave piston skirt on intake side to draw more air
Widen exhaust port
Jb weld transfer ports to 'form an arrow' pointing toward the intake.

Less then a $1.00..... Good luck, as JB Wield, a file, and a Dremel tool cost more then a $1.00 each. Most people don't have a file and Dremel tool.

I imagine some sandpaper and a lot of time could replace both a file and a dremel (depending if the mod requires a cutting wheel) there is always a way around things, for example grinding down the clutch actuator took 2 minutes on a table grinder, but i imagine its doable with sandpaper and say, a solid 30 minutes

pardon restarting an old thread, but I really like this question and there's a few I can think of

  • if your air filter is restrictive, you can build a filter box out of an empty smoothie or soda bottle, with the filter box and or carb wrapped in nylon stockings from the dollar store. engine breathes better ==> go faster (especially if you take time to find optimal tuned shape)
  • lube. sometimes auto parts stores, truck stops, and other random stores have heavy Molly grease in little packets almost like ketchup near the checkout. grease the bearings so you don't waste your energy making unwanted heat and vibration
  • pencil lube? easy to get pencils cheap or free. a little rod of graphite is great for cleaning and lubricating the chain at the same time. just run it over bearing surfaces, push the dirt and old grease out and leaving a residue of graphite micro powder lubricant. great for chains, except it won't hold up against moisture unless you use a secondary lubricant like bar and chain oil or 10W/40 or heavier motor oil (not wd40, is too thin) or even use candle wax along with the graphite to provide weather resistance
  • air's free or under a dollar at least. if you pump up your tires to 5 psi over their Max recommended level, you can go a little faster. be warned, this lets you know if there's anything sub par about your tire and tube installation by giving you a blowout. if they're real low, still lot of improvement to be had while staying in spec too
  • dollar store sandpaper could conceivably be used to smooth and polish exhaust port or even use it on a pane of glass to plane the head gasket mating surfaces (jaguar's method - note that you do need a new aluminum gasket afterwards. they're really hard but possible to hand fabricate/duplicate if you have some aluminum in the correct thickness, but I'd recommend buying one, since 4 hours of your time is probably worth more than a dollar or two spent on a gasket)

most important: plane the cylinder head even (since it comes warped from the factory) and make your own head gasket from hi temp gasket material.

also: add solder to the carbs needle as is outlined at my site (click on my signature link) to improve the air/fuel ratio

Guys you cant use just any plate glass for resurfacing the head or cylinder, Regular plate glass is not perfectly level architectural glass or the glass used to make fish tanks is what you want!

It doesn't have to be perfect because the gasket makes up for the remaining small irregularities
