Just got hit by a car!

Dude! I Can't even begin to tell you how many close calls I've had, and twice i've actually been hit. I'm so glad you're okay, and that your ride is okay. It may take a few to shake it but you will.
I learned in my Motorcycle safety course that you have to assume that drivers not only will not see you but don't want to see you, therefore you must be aware in 360 degrees at all times and assume the worst, therefore ride prepared to avoid and dodge, and brake and all that.
Again I'm sooo very glad you are okay!!!!!!!!

WHEW! could've been alot worse, friend. glad you're okay.

that seems to be the most common occurence I've seen yet. had contact with 2 cars in the last year, and COUNTLESS near-misses. i thank Wakan Tanka for good brakes every day, it seems.

the little rear-view mirror on my glasses has really helped. i can see the car approach, and if they have the signal on, i know what to do.

Texas

In Texas, They consider Bike riders Pedestrians so it's a see and avoid thing for the car driver according to a local cop I talked to...His advice was: "Don't hit one" Kill a bike rider that is going about his business and manslaughter can be brought against you. Makes me wonder why when these morons have 3 clear lanes to choose, they stay in the one that is right up against you and pass you with it floored... Compensating for something small I guess.

I always just assume drivers are all idiots in bad moods and as much as it feels good to be right, it feels better to be alive or to not get hurt.

one thing ive learned in many years of rideing is ride like they dont see ya & give your self lots of space between vehicles! really good rear view mirrors are a must! & super good brakes!! i hope it didnt leave marks on you!! i on the otherhand have had lots of marks over the years, due to myself & others! thats why im goin to motoredbikes! the terminal speed isnt as fast- less broken bones! ride on tom!!!

I wonder what exactly the law says. Do bikers have the full right of way in the bike lane? I guess it depends on where you are.

Ca DMV code says cars can pull into the bike lane 200' before they make a right turn but do not have the right of way over a bicycle. I just read that two days ago.

At an intersection, bicycles can pull into the rt car lane to leave the rt turn lane open for cars. Then pull back into the bicycle lane after they clear the intersection.

seriously. I just need a super loud horn to notify drivers when they make a mistake.

Works good and any of five sounds can be selected via jumpers. I like the one that sounds like a fire engine horn while crossing an intersection.

One of these will be on my next motorcycle but a 12V battery like augi is using will support it. 139 dBA!! That ought to get some attention.

Or you could go with one of those canned air horns used of small boats. A handgun would work too. :D
