i am completly new to the whole motor bike thing. i have been trying to find a kit to mount on my mountain bike but have no idea where to start. can anyone give me a link to a good kit that is reliable? and are the ones on ebay any good?
thanks for the help

What kind of mounting schema were you planning on? Rack mount,in frame??
2 stroke or 4 stroke??
A picture of yuor Mt Bike would also help advise you.

There has probably been every kind of bike either motorized, or attempted to be motorized by the vast group of people on this board. if you give a few more details I am sure the opinions will flood to you...

i am not really sure on the stroke. i have read posts saying that they dont have a good 4 stroke engine yet so im guessing a 2 stroke? and i want to mount it in the frame. i have a trek with diamond fram and front suspension.
thanks

most of us just go with one of the big three, grubeeinc.com kingsmotors.com or thatsdax.com. The latter is the one I used - he posts on the board a lot and I can attest to the kit's quality as it is the one I have.

From what I have heard the rack mount is less maintenance, but the frame mount has more power (because it's bigger). Look around the tech/mech help and General Discussion, start with the old articles and read backwards with the "previous thread" link and you'll get a good idea of what's going on with these engines.

yup, it's all here, but you'll have to do the legwork.

when you read a topic that interests you, post a "reply" in that topic and ask your question there.

just read post 'needs help" glad I did . Just ordered justdax 70cc motor after checking several possibilities. Was glad to see sideshowsideswipe's post. As I'm just getting into this area I have numerous questiond and concerns. This forum is going to help a lot if I locate the correct info. before I make a serious mistake. Perhaps I've selected an acceptable engine now all I need is to get a good frame with good brakes and get it all put together correctly. All help appreciated.

It's best to get a steel frame with the down tube the same size as the seatpost tube. That way its nice and sturdy and you shouldnt have any problem mounting the engine with the supplied hardware. Also most bikes nowadays come with very light rims and spokes. You definitely want to invest in the heaviest duty steel spokes and rim possible or you'll probably get broken spokes. This forum has a lot of good info on it. the Dax website seems to have a really good installation guide too. I read through it after mounting a kit on a couple bikes and he gave me good tips I hadn't even figured out after years.
