I'm still running it this way,but using a modfied 38 tooth cog from Bikeberry. What a PITA! I had to grind out the center hole a little bit, to match the 44. Then I had to mark the 9 holes. With the best I could do, 2 interfered with holes from the 5 hole ring, which had to be drilled and filed out (stretched holes). It works ok though. Easier to start, and runs a hair faster.
