Bafang 500W 36V vs 500W 48V

The 48V draw less Amps to achieve the same Watts as a 36V.
Batteries are rated in Amp Hours, a 48V system will run longer at the same power.
 
Would one notice any difference in power between the 36v and the 48v when going up a 25 degree hill?
 
That hub motor can only take 500W so battery size will not change power.
A 48V battery will just let you carry more power than a 36V.
More distance and less battery stress, not more power to the wheel is the result.
I'd go 48V.

48V 500W, 18A, 18*48 = 864W

That is a meaningless calculation.

That hub motor and controller can only do 500W.

500W/36V = 13.9Ah draw.
500W/48V = 10.4Ah draw.

The 48V gives an extra 3.5Ah battery life for the same performance than a 36V.
 
the 48V is better than 36v , and same price you can get 48 750W bafang motor,that should be the best choice.

The Bafang BBS02 (nominal 750 watts), has a 25A controller built in. A 48V lithium battery, fully charged is going to be 50+ volts. So assuming your battery is rated to put out at least 25 amps continuous, you can get 1250 peak watts out of that kit. I would recommend only doing it for short bursts though. The BBS02 doesn't like to be lugged, so if you get one, mind your gear and keep the motor spinning at fairly high rpm.
