I built a bike about a year ago, and due to my awful mechanical knowledge it was a complete failure. I didn't do much right but I want to do it again and do it right. What i'm wonder is if there is a difference between a $189 BikeBerry kit and a $125 eBay kit.

Also would a 49cc be better in terms of reliability over a 66cc?

no difference, bikeberry sells ebay kits with a markup. if you want a higher quality kit, go to Cheez Fickenworth for 40mm stroke PK80s or Mark Clyde Stewart for 38mm stroke GT5s.

as long as you don't get a pre-2012 kit with the 'bone shaker' crank, there is little difference in the reliability of the motors

it's all down to quality control. the two vendors I named go through their engines to look for out of true cranks and casting defects, and have excellent return policies. plus the transfers on cheez fickenworth's engines are huge
