how about a spot in main topics by this name for those of us that like bikes a little on the wild side chops, one offs, lowriders and show bikes still friendly to all I know alot of people that build and customize that would love to have a place that we could show off styles of bikes that we've built and help others to build the bike that dreams are made of and yes most of the build motorized bikes

this whole messageboard is a builder's corner, encompassing everyone from the budget builder to the extravagantly entitled.
so far, everyone's gotten along fine sharing what they know...the hot-rodders seem to enjoy sharing their knowledge with the beginner, and imo, that's what makes this place so appealling. after all, it was beginners & budget-builders who got this thing off the ground. noone was helping us, so we started helping ourselves and each other.

personally, i'm hesitant to split the crowd so early in our growth, especially along the lines you're suggesting. any time an experienced hot-rodder wants to start a customizing topic in "general discussion" or "technical help", or post a kick-*ss set of pics in "picture gallery", he or she is welcome and encouraged to do so.

that being said, however, whatever the bossman wants the bossman gets :D

Dave- I stayed off the net until September 06, and for a month looked for a place to trade ideas, especially with other GEBEr's who I heard about, but never talked to. They have YET to show up.

When Tom built this site, I asked if we could carve out a corner for GEBE, and the arrangement is IF enough get on board, sure, but it's a trickle, not a flood.

Meanwhile, I was oblivious to the setups the majority of the board is using, traveling thousands of miles and I only saw one motorized bike, it was an old hobo looking guy, with the motor mounted on a peice of wood, run by a washing maching belt.

Now that I've been on Tom's site, I see there a vast array of models and applications, just like any other hobby. The funniest thing I saw before finding this forum was when I Wikipedia'd "Motorized Bikes" and saw one Canadian causing a whole lot of controversy about his concept. I'm just waiting for Tom and Augie to meet THAT guy. Look at the Wikidiscussion for yourself, it's hilarious.

But as we started forming the basis of this place, no ads, no spam, it is an "all for one" type forum, if the "authorities" start thinking my weedeater should be "legislated", I'm looking to this forum to bluff them all the way to the Supreme Court.

The "Introduce yourself" and "Photo Gallery" are two new features, and I haven't used either, I just have a picture of my plain old $250 red cruiser bike in that first gallery Tom built. I'm trying to make reliable transportation for less than $900 bucks, even less if my customer has a bike worth using.

Plant your idea in either of those two categories, and when those guys you speak of show up on the forum, they will congregate, and when the moderators see there is enough traffic, "click, click, click, and whoola", those can be carved out.

But if you look, somebody early on wanted Electric, Tom built it, and zip, nada, nothing. Likewise, I thought the GEBE guys would flock, but it is too early to ask for a seperate GEBE area.

I have low mechanical knowledge, but build tire that would survive a suicide bombing, it doesn't matter what engine type is used, my triple lined tire/12 gauge wheel makes for less hassle, so it is GENERAL knowledge. I've tried straight handlebars, but in my long distance applications, only curved handlebars (which ease elbow wear and tear), work best.

Put your "specialty knowledge" under your "Introduce yourself" or "Photo Gallery" topic, and wait for the specialists you speak of to start showing up, THEN start a "High End" application. I invited the organizers of that Indiana rally to post, and I think there will be many new folks joining who share your ideas. Spread the word.

My two GEBE customers who race dragsters have a barn full of bikes that they might want to customize, but one shares a fence corner with me and I can't get HIM to check out the website. It takes time and patience.......

yeah, what he said. Lets wait to have an eminent need, and then we can go ahead and make changes. Forum follows function. Back in the days when I was an forum admin newb, (only a few months ago) I followed a new members advice to make an "electric bikes" section, and we got like one post in a few months and ended up taking it down.

We will see what happens. Round up all the hardcore custom motor-bicycle hot rod builders you know and send them knocking down our doors to make you guys a specialty forum. We would appreciate that!

hell, i think everyone on here likes to look at that stuff and learn from it as well. that's what the tech forum is for. not just for asking questions, but showing things as well, that might help someone. i'd say that most of the people on here don't have the means, knowledge, or desire to fabricate their own frames or anything like that. looking at them is nice though...and that's what the pictures section is for. personally i don't see a need for another forum, but i'm not head honcho.

Augi nailed it there.....glad to have you here. you have some really tricked out rides. I think I've seen pics of your white chopper online. reminds me of my ex-bro-inlaw's sportster, back in the 80's. Bring your friends, dazzle us.....& most of prepared to answer a bunch of questions.
This is by far, the coolest, most sharing forum I've ever been involved in!

    Dave :)

    gotta love the new gearheads

as what was already said on this forum we are all builders and tweekers some of us have full shops and some of us have a livingroom.

I have been on a lot of sites that are out there for these bikes and some of the sites have gone belly up like the skyhawk site and not for lack of interest

There is one site I go to a lot and if I have a bad ?? I go to the bike gods there for help those guys can figure out just about how to make these things fly and you should see the wood work they do for the traditional board bikes look .

I always come back to this site even though it takes me 5 x's to sign in and I have to fight the puter about it ......we googel each others rides we swap war stories and help each other out and I have some friends here that I can BS with and even argue politics with the guys on the other board kinda hibernate in the winter so I am hanging out here a little more.

Your bikes are cool and it is great you have a shop to work in and I am sure we can pick your brains:).

Unlike some sites Tom and Augie do not want to have an ELEATIST site like some of the sites I visit they want a tavern type of feel to the site the come on in an sit a spell type of place you want to come back to. We all can rember the first time your crank the motor over and it sputtered and started and ur butt slid a little, or the first time you goose the bike and she runs like a scalded dog the first time you get out on the road and the heart racing a mile a min. and relising no matter how mad you are when you get on the bike when you get off you have a big smile on ur face and ur body tingels we share all those feelings even now and the feeling we get when we do a build or help a newbee with a build (something a lot of us did not have ).

This is possibly one of the best posts on the site. I can't figure out what makes me smile so much, and why I'm brokenhearted when it breaks. I enjoy knowing everyone here has dealt with the same things. My skills at customizing would be a decal of a flame attached to my tank so I enjoy drooling over the customs some of you talented guys and gals can build.:)

If not for this site, I'd have long ago packed it in on a motored bike. This is where all the info I was lacking came to light and I'm still learning and will continue to do so. It's almost like being invited over to someones house the things that are shared here... and I must remember to conduct myself as a a gentleman when I'm in this house. Thanks all.
  14. Man,without this site,I am utterly alone in this bike building craze, for everyone that see's me just want to ride my bike and think it's indestructable. My bike would be a failure without this site.
This site has seriously saved my life. It's been an otherwise very bad year.
