When I test my cdi from black wire to plug wire I'm getting 5.77 on the 20k scale.. I understand it's to read under 2.5. So what is my reading telling me?

nothing much - using a meter to test CDIs is difficult because polarity of the leads will change reading across the capacitors in there - also, the timing is controlled by transistors that can't be read very well from outside
on the other board, I show pics of the CDI tester I built and also a quick and dirty timing tool one can attach to any motor to check timing
my win9x machine can't work this new s/w here well enough to post those pics on this board
