This forum is meant to handle hot, controversial topics, topics that we all get passionate about. We should argue our points openly and with vigor and vehemently disagree with each other. I've done that with the best of you but I've also let personal feelings about others enter the debate. I'm going to do my best not to allow that to happen, on my part, again. If anyone sees kerf getting personal, please remind me of this pledge. I'm not here to disparage anyone personally, no matter how wrong :jester:your political beliefs are. I would welcome anyone that would join me in this endeavor.

Yeah, Sparky was a totally innocent victim in all of this, so you guys better stand by your word dammit!!!!!!!!!!

Keep your signature Sparky, your words represent yourself now, and not the opinions of the forum as a whole. Go ahead and attack me personally. I just might get a chuckle out of your best efforts.

AG, I accepted sparky's reply as sincere, he's changed his signature, I take him at his word.

But Sparky did not pledge anything. Instead, he voices that he hopes YOU GUYS keep to your pledge, then takes down his signature - which should not have been posted in the first place.

A rough analogy would be Israel and Hamas.

If by civility you mean respecting others and dropping concise blanket statements for more accurate & detailed claims... I can give you my word. That's all I've wanted from the get go. I'd prefer that people ask more questions... and when someone is presented with a question, they should attempt to answer it to the best of their knowledge or admit that they do not know.

Let's take a comment I've seen that is not civil, productive, meaningful... "No wonder you're a Barr supporter." There's no explanation that comes with it. What does the statement *mean*? Is it an insult? Why is it an insult? Are you saying that Obama, McCain supporters are BETTER than Barr supporters? For what specific reasons?

How about another.. "Bwaaaahahahahaaahahahahaaaaaaahaaaa! Methinks your tokin' has destroyed your memory." This statement will get a few LOLs, I'm sure, but it ignores the fact that no President in modern history had to endure such disrespect during a speech to a joint session of Congress, at least not a televised one. And it is an easy tactic to get out of answering a couple questions about who is really lying! Joe Wilson or Obama? Why would someone care to answer that question with the response above?

The name.. "OhBahMah" is just plain silly and a waste of time to begin with when typing out. The purpose of this name... has no real purpose in discussing policies and issues. Why even use it when his real name is shorter? Obama. That's TOO easy, right?

If someone invokes the name of Bush for the sake of relativity to compare past events, a statement like "I understand that you don't like Bush but because of those feelings, I don't think you were as "fixed" on the Bush attacks as you are on the Obama attacks. 90% of the media support your guy and they also hate Bush, their attacks on Bush were every bit as vicious as anything happening now."... simply avoids the fact that Bush was never treated in a joint session like Obama was today. My hatred of Bush's actions have no relevance to a comparison of the reactions of Congress with different Presidents.

And my personal favorite... "You know kerf - you throw out these terms like "Communist", "Marxist", "Socialist" and "Statist" quite "liberally". Do you even know what these words mean? Huh, do ya, huh - huh - huh????!!!!" It makes it appear as if intelligent conversation will never be possible, because people SHOULD be allowed to use terms that mean different things to different people. It makes it appear as if understanding language should never be an objective among civilized people.

It makes me wonder what you guys will be posting, tho, if you tried to follow such decent rules of civility. . . .

The Barr comment was me poking at Mort about his Libertarian standing. I feel sure he understood no slight intended.

90% of the political comments on this board are poking, jabbing, & dodging!!

Civility in here will depend on self-moderation, and I honestly think it will be tough as ALL heck for a few of you guys.

Remember that we apparently must post according to Sparky's standard - which is to carefully explain every word we type and to answer all of his questions, no matter how irrelevant they are because if you don't answer the "Joe Wilson or OhBahMah" question he brought up, you are obviously sidestepping the whole issue. (whatever the h3ll that is....)

Nobody said you must post by sparky's standards. If you have some standards you'd like to see, let them be known. If you have something against my standards, let them be known.

Sparky ..have you ever thought of taking a break and not posting anything on this forum for ....say a week..I wonder if anyone would miss reading your words..maybe..maybe not

Yes, actually I did consider that for a few seconds one time... then I realized that taking a break for a day is long enough.

Did you ever consider asking arceeguy that very same question?

Is there something in particular that you don't like about my posts, Turtle Tedd?? Too honest? Too real? Too clean-cut? Too dull? Too dry? Too liberal/conservative/libertarian/authoritarian? Too left/right? Too right/wrong? Too critical? Too boring?
