cleaning the K&N clone air filter

I've taken apart my carb to clean it, and the air filter is lousy with fuel. so, um... do you just clean it with soap and water? I have a dish soap that is a really good degreaser (I use it on mil-surp rifles all the time). I used it on the carb itself as well. Can I just use that on the air filter as well?

I know that if it gets cleaned with soap and water-- rinse, rinse, rinse, and then let it FULLY dry before reassembling everything (let alone running the bike..)

I clean my the same way,but after it drys i put a drop of kn oil on every pleate to ensure better filtering.
