I tightened my clutch cable too tight the other day and rode for about an hour. now the bike is producing a grinding noise and has lost a substantial amount of power. Ive since loosened the tension on the cable, but the grinding is getting worse. not sure if i permanently injured the mechanism or not. any suggestions for fixes or parts that might be in question?

When you say it has lost power do you mean that the engine is still running and revving up ok but the bike is going nowhere? If so it's probably the clutch slipping. Here's a good post which explains how to adjust the clutch http://www.motoredbikes.com/showthread.php?33506-clutch-adjustment

Does the grinding noise go away when you pull the clutch lever in?

you might have just burned the grease off the bucking bar - open the cover and apply a big glob of grease there
