Jackshaft DIY Jackshaft / Freewheel / Shift Kit

Detonatortuningsolution's Front freewheel crank jackshaft and pedals setup based on sick bike parts using the whites front freewheel.

The way detonator set it up the front crank does everything.

Eliminate any other need for a jackshaft if the proper motor is selected.
I use a gp 460 it can run at 11000 rpm all day.
A cvt (it will vary the ratio so I just use the cassette for ranges.)
The rear casette I only use 4 th 5 th and 6 th gears.
On a 24 inch bicycle.

Nice in town abilities No vibrations.

If I am careful I dont snap too many chains. LOL

For sure, never ride a bike with a bolt on sprocket.

Not sure which sprocket you are refering to.

The Motor?

I wouldn't bolt one on there either.

There are many bolt on sprockets all over these bikes.

WHAT IS IMPORTANT!!!!

The shear strength of the botls.
= "how much force to break the bolts"

The strength of the plate used for the sprocket.
= "how much force it takes to distort the holes in the sprocket"

The amount of force applied to those components.
= "If we don't exceed the allowable force were in good shape"

Properly key a sprocket in the drive train to ensure the key will shear befor worse things happen.

At all cost !!!!!!

Be sure the crank Freewheel setup is indestructible.

If that freewheel fails in any way.

How many chains have you broken / worn out?

What speeds do you run.

Is there a link to this alternative?

Thanks

lOOKS LIKE YOU GUYS DID ALOT OF WORK ON THE GP460.

Outstanding.

I prefer the in frame motor.

The rack mounts look diff.

I will continue on here.

Cad drawings of Gear Train #1 coming soon.

very useful information

Many useful formula

I'm referring to the standard China bike kit bolt to your spokes left chain direct driven sprocket. Those fail like crazy and people get face rashes, but it's a risk many here take. Comparing a chain breaking two freewheels away from the drive wheel with that shlock design is apples and oranges.

If for some bizarre reason the front freewheel seizes fully engaged you can clutch in and you will still freewheel with the rear freewheel. Most likely failure mode would be pawls breaking.

Engine Output Sprocket

Reading about changing the sprockets, I thought I should look at the one on my 48cc. I was under the impression that output shaft was tapered, but mine is straight. It has a very small key. Looks to be around 3mm square and around 6mm long. I was too lazy to go get a digital caliper and actually measure it.

I am guessing it would shear if the chain jamed, but that wouldn't help the rider, the wheel is still locked.

The engine was in the vise, so I installed the pull start. Tried putting on the original lock nut but the adapter drug on the mag screws. Added a washer, but could not start the nut. Found two washers, one thick and one thin that were a little thicker than the lock washer alone. They gave enough clearance, so used lock tight on the crank nut.

Nice to be able to turn the engine over when on the bench.

Still looking for a donor bike at yard sales. Have a buddy on Maui who is going to build a 2 stroke shifter, so thought I should build one also.

Added a Bell bell to my Honda / GruBee. Haven't heard that sound for 60 years. ) Also building a Pizzo buzzer for long range warning.

Free floating tension sprocker / Roll-Ring

I have seen a standard sprocket used in this application, but of course unlike the Roll-Ring, it doesn't compensate for link ware.

It wouldn't work well for conventional engine / rear wheel drive IMHO as the conventional idler serves to put the chain around more teeth on the rear sprocket which stabilizes the chain and reduces the strain on it?

I can see where it would serve as a snubber or damper.

Nice find.

This project is looking very interesting - can't wait to see the finished product.
In the meantime, the design and manufacturing process will be sure to keep me glued to this thread.

Well done, well done!
