engine always running on high

hi all, so i just built 48cc 2 cycle and am having problems with throttle/carburetor. the mechanics for the throttle work when the slide,needle,spring piece is on the outside of the carb, but as soon as we put in it the carb it doesnt work properly? i found out when first starting the bike the throttle did nothing. the engine just ran full speed with nothing i could do about it. ran great just no control over speed and is really loud and probably harmful when pulling the clutch revving full go. it sounded like it was going to blow up. any suggestions. thx, joe

the slide is in backwards

yep, the slot going all the way down the slide engages a pin in the body near the fuel line
