My clutch has been slipping under power and dripping gas/oil. I opened up the clutch side of the engine and found the whole clutch assembly is SOAKED with black fluid (presuming its a gas/oil mix).

My basic instinct tells me that area is supposed to be DRY right?

2 questions:

1. What could cause such a leak?

2. Can it be fixed reasonably?

Thanks everybody.

My guess is that the main seal on the crank shaft has failed or was not there in the first place. If you remove the small gear on the crank shaft using the puller tool that should have come with your engine you will be able to see it. It can be replaced. It is also possible that it just wasn't installed all the way and you may be able to re-seat it.

I had similar trouble it was fuel leaking from the shutoff and down the fuel line and dripped of fthe carb and seeped into the clutch area..
