So, I have my engine mounted, I have my rear wheel sprocketed, and I just eyeballed ware the chain would go, and it looks like it would grind into the bicycle frame. What does one do to prevent this? I was thinking about just using the chain tensioner to bend the bottom part of the chain upward so that its out of the way of the frame, though I'm still worried about clearance.

Looks like you already figured it out. That's what I do.

    chain cutting in frame

just to let you know, there is "slick tape" aviable at a lot of woodworking supply stores its used for industrial purposes where chains may slide into a metal piece, its really cheap and works great, it allows the chain to glide over metal without even chaffing it--good luck!!

Good tip- I may add that just for double extra safety.
