I put a staton friction drive on a mongoose for my nephew... its a blast to ride.

I like 20" wheels
I like bikes with small wheels. I think a friction drive would be best because the grubee type motors won't fit inside a BMX frame and would be really slow with a 44 or 36 tooth cog on a 20" wheel.
Some people say the friction rollers won't work with knobbie tires, but I think they will work ok with cheap ones that have short knobs, or ones with a checker cut tread pattern.
Good luck on your build. A lot of people have made these on youtube with common BMX bikes and weedeaters, turning a BMX axle peg or a spark plug socket that has sand epoxied to it.
