What a dream. Well get it ready in time for the big rally next year. I'll bet you could charge each of us $5 to take turns riding it:D
I'm very happy for you, what a great find!

Honestly, I'd keep it just as your found it, regardless how cool of a motored bike it would make. To me it would be a shame to modify it at all. Just my .02 cents

Yea I agree with motoshwinn.Good clean vintage bikes are worth more unrestored than restored.I just sold a Identical bike for $600.If you want to motorize a vintage cruiser You should come down to my place and we'll peice you one together out of a bunch of parts I've got.

I'm no specialist but I think I would make a project of at least taking it apart and cleaning it piece by piece. Put it back together and just admire the &%%$ out of it.

hey guys! my first step on the old higgins is to buy new wheel sets for it , i think?the rear wheel brakes dont work & its kinda wobbly. i thought id put the origional stuff away & upgrade to more modern berrings, & heavyier spokes ect! it has the old skip tooth chain & sprokets, & i think its imposible to incorporate old sprocket to new hub. so ill have to install more modern drive sprocket-crank to acomadate new style sprocket. is this possible? crank berring & race sizes simular ect? please help! im shure i should have posted this question some where else, but its a good place to start. thanks in advance!

Bearing sizes are the same as the modern day bearins.I might have a standard sprocket that looks like the skip tooth one.

I'm with Doc on this one! Although, if it was me, I'd only be able to "admire the &%%$ out of it" for about 2 days, and then I'd have to get busy motorizing it!!

Ohhhh NO! the "What If"?

Hi Wavy, I can tell you now, that IF I would motorize that old JC Higgins (By the way, do you know who he was?), That I would get another rear fender, and "dummy up the color" so that when I cut it for the new NE5 Whizzer, I would not cut the orig paint on the orig part!

NE5 you say? Good Gawd yes, why would you put a cheap chinese 2-stroke on an American bike, when you could at least go to an engine that looks, sounds, smells, and feels like one that was availble "In the Day"? I can send you a piar of "hub Shiners' with (sadly) plastic reflectors to put on your new wheels to power that cool old bike around on. If you look at my gallery, you'll see I've built many old American bikes, sadly it was in the early days before I got into Whizzer.

Mike
