How do I clean up aluminium?

Discussion in 'Painting, Welding, Bending and Gas Tanks' started by go you good thing, May 11, 2007.

  1. Hi all.

I have to make a custom bracket to mount my fuel tank and will be using a length of aluminium to do it.

I have some thats been in the shed for a while but it is quite crusty and needs a good clean up.

Anyone know the best way to bring it back to like new without scratching it up?

    Many thanks in advance.

    Steve.

It depends on how pitted it is. If it's pitted, use a 3M green scrubby pad and some aluminum polish.

If it's not pitted, use the aluminum polish.

  3. Thanks BJ I will go get some polish and try it.

  4. Worked well.

It was pitted and I used the green scourer and some liquid Silvo.

I scrubbed 'with the grain' and it looks fine.

    Many thanks again.
