how much clearance should you have

Between the engine and the crank?

On the left side, (the side the ht's sprocket is on) I have about 2 or 3 mm clearance between the crank and the engine. I'll take a pic shortly to show you what I mean.

I can probably shave a mm or two off the crank itself without comprimising it's strength too much, but was wondering what others had!

As long as everything stays tight- any clearance is enough.

I think I can slide a .35 feeler gauge on my right crank. It actually rubbed at one time alerting me to loose motor mounts.

After I mounted the engine properly in the frame, I actually have zero clearance!

I managed to fix this by using the crank off a full suspension bike. I now have about 3cm!

Just a tip for others who might have this problem!
