I noticed something recently, tinkering with the clutch on my year-old 67cc HT engine. Everywhere I've looked about the subject, I've heard the gear noise is incredible on these engines, and that they are spur (straight-cut) gears.

Well... Mine are helical. Not as great an angle as would be found in an automotive transmission, but a slight 2-5 degree angle is present. And in my case, the gears make noise but they aren't *that* loud. I've included pics. Is this normally what they look like, and the reason they aren't loud for me is due to bad hearing, or do I have something different?

Mine are very slightly helical as well. But putting cardboard on the inside of the cover still cut down on some noise.
There weren't terribly loud, but dampening them did make them quieter.
