Hello codex and welcome to MBc. Typical eager beavers with MTBs and whacker engines are the heart and soul of the DIY MB world. There are some great examples in the archives of low cost and dependable transportation some of the guys have done, and personally I think it's possible that they can be made a lot more reliable than some of the kits.
