There was a guy on Endless-Sphere that simply mounted an RC motor to the bottom of a cargo rack. The engine shaft was static and the engine housing spun the rear tire.

The coolest one I've seen was by a french company.It had two motors that pinched the sides of the wheel (like caliper brakes), no wet road worries.Can't remember the name, but if they figured a way to do it with one gas engine and some gearing you'd really have something.
