    Hey Guys,

Kind of new here! I mostly ride vintage mopeds but have started getting into friction drive motorized bikes. I just finished up a fun moped video and thought I'd share!

    Check it out!

Thanks BiMoPed. I haven't made it out to Myron's yet! I live like next door to the moped shop Choke. Makes it pretty easy to pop in and out. Hope everyone likes the video!
I know lots of people are stuck in snow!

i like those mopeds i think they are pretty cool i would like to get one and take trips on them since they are legal in all 50 as long as tagged and insured and they can handle a little more weight than our bikes can.

Depending on engine size and power rating, all 50 states do not require tags or insurance.

even if it does not have peddles? oh i guess that would make it a scooter then huh if no peddles are presnt ?

I have a current, up to date South Carolina drivers hand book in my hand right now. This is exactly, word for word what it says about mopeds.

A moped is a cycle with or without peddles and with a motor of not more than fifty cubic centimeters. It’s power will not exceed more than two brake horsepower and the motor is not capable of propelling the vehicle at a speed in excess of thirty miles an hour on level ground. The power drive system must directly or automatically without clutching or shifting after the engine is engaged.

The clause about thirty miles per hour is not an understand speed limit. It means the moped it’s self can not be capable of going over thirty miles per hour. Doesn’t mean your moped can do fifty, but you’re not supposed to exceed thirty miles per hour. Maximum speed on any kind of moped here it twenty five miles per hour period.

There is something in my hand book about lighting, including head, brake and turn signals and rear view mirrors. That’s another story though. My motorized bike is 100% legal here.

That being said, now I wonder if the shift kits for these bikes are legal, with or without a manual or centrifugal clutch. I don’t think it would be since you don’t “HAVE” to change gears.
Could not find anything in my book abut a tag, so I just called DMV. I was told as long as my moped meets the previously requirements that I just stated, I need no tag. There are a few stipulations about operator’s age, drivers license and safety equipment (helmets) in the book too.

I live on a major highway really close to a magistrates office and have cops around all the time, day and night. Never had a problem with them at all. Of course, my bike being 100% legal, I don’t expect to. Even if I ever do get pulled over, I’m sure it won’t be a big deal. I’ve been seen by them riding in the road and on the sidewalk.

My point is, do your homework about your local laws. If you choose to run illegal and get caught, don’t whine ! I know there are a lot of people on this forum that run illegal. Especially when it comes to engine size and maybe power, depending on how much these little engine actually produce. Hope this helps and answers your question !

    In California you need:
1 - Registration which is $18 for a lifetime and includes a plate.
2 - Motorcycle license, but I just keep renewing my permit.
3 - Insurance which is about $100 a year from progressive.

Some states don't require anything at all! Even in California cops don't really know the laws. I know people who don't have anything and have been stopped by the cops. The cops usually just let them go so they don't have to deal with paperwork.

As far as bikes go. You need a headlight and a taillight. No signals required.
You also need 1 mirror of any size.
They should not be more than 50cc or make more than 2BHP or go faster than 30mph.

Most of my bikes push 50mph and make around 6-7BHP and are 70cc.
I've been stopped by the cops a few times. Not once questioned about my set-up.
Again, they don't usually care and these bikes don't have 70cc painted on the side of them.

    ^all california law^

    Someone once told me.
Nothing bad can come from getting your motorcycle license, getting tags or insurance.

In fact when you get in an accident or just get stopped by the cops you can be 100% confident you've done everything in your power to keep yourself and others safe.

Seems silly to get so worried about something when you know the steps you need to take to ride legit.
