how do you check a magneto?

Welcome to the forum. I'm guessing you could hook a volt meter to your blue wire and spin the motor. I've never tried it.

With a DMM, measure between blue and black, (ground). Expect about 330 ohms.
Do this test with the CDI unit disconnected.

Between white and ground, expect about 2-3 ohms.
If it measures less, disconnect the kill-switch and try again.
