recently i was searching for 8.8 grade threaded rod most places i asked they didnt even know what grade it was others checked for me and was 4.6 , so i went to an engineering supply shop asked him he said he presumed it was 8.8 just like everything else but couldnt check , i purchased it anyway for all of 1euro 20 cents for a metre , on returning home i noticed the ends marked yellow and checked it out here is the easy way to check the grade of metric threaded rod.

Metric threaded rods are marked on the end with a color code to define the ISO strength class. The color codes are:

  • Unmarked — 4.6 class (tensile strength = 400 N/mm2, yield strength 240 N/mm2)
  • Yellow — 8.8 class (800 N/mm2, 640 N/mm2)
  • Green — A2 stainless steel (304)
  • Red — A4 stainless steel (316)
  • White — 10.9 class (1000 N/mm2, 900 N/mm2)
