Mid Atlantic MB/Whizzer Rally October 11-12

A few photos are in order...

Hi all, I'm still awaiting approval from Dover to hold the event at Fort Miles (Cape Henlopen State Park, Lewes, Delaware), but in the meantime I thought I'd post some photos of the proposed location. These photos were taken at living history events held at the Fort, so sometimes reenactors can be seen.
First, a view down the road towards the parking area and one of the Fire Control Towers (for the Coastal Artillery). This FCT is open for people to explore:

Here are a couple photos of various building in the cantonment:

Here are some photos looking out to sea from the vantage point in front of Battery 519:

Cape Henlopen has the distinction of being the most heavily armed State Park in the country. Here's part of the reason why - a 6-inch naval gun that was part of the WWII Coastal Artillery armament:

Here are a couple of the 3-inch guns on display:

Oh, by the way, the grey one is fully operational. They do firing demos (with blank charges) with this one:

MotoredBikes are not new to Fort Miles. Here's my Columbia at a past event:

I wish I had more general views of the site, but unfortunately they were lost when my old computer crashed. The site is historic, and the structures are being restored to become a living history museum. The park itself has a lot to explore by MB, and a ride into town of Lewes or to the Cape May - Lewes Ferry would be in order. Wouldn't it be a great gag photo to have taken of all the bikes lined up, looking like they're ready to load onto the ferry?

It's a "GO"!!

Actually Jay, I have new information that I just received this afternoon. I just received conformation from the park that we can indeed hold the rally there. So listen up troops!
The rally will be held at Cape Henlopen State Park in Lewes, DE on October 11 & 12.
We will be located in the area nearest the basketball courts (unfortunately the two other areas I would have chosen first were already booked or having a program).
Quenton, to answer your question, it IS okay to set up and sell some goods.
Unfortunately, the Biden Center was booked a few months ago for a retreat, so no accommodation is available there. For those looking to camp, here's a toll-free number for the park's campsite: 877-987-2757. For those not looking to rough it, here's a link to a site with directions and hotels: http://www.fortmiles.org/directions.html
Now, here's the rub. None of the hotels or motels in Lewes have any rooms available that weekend. I booked at the Super 8 Motel in Milford, around 20 miles away. Their rooms start at $59.99 on Priceline.com.
There are rooms available closer (in Rehoboth Beach) if you want to spend an arm and a leg.
Hope to see you at the Rally!

Okay, here's some more information. We have received permission to also hold a swap meet, so if you have any MB items you're looking to sell, by all means bring them. We will be set up near the basketball courts, so if you want to shoot hoops, bring a basketball (lol). We will be near the beach bath house and the Nature Center, so facilities are right nearby.
There are a good number of eateries in and around the town of Lewes, so we'll be riding around town, down by the beach, wherever we want to go. Just remember to bring a helmet. Delaware has a helmet law that although you needn't wear it, it must be with you and displayed (while riding).
For those interested in WWII history, we'll have a ride-out to Fort Miles (more like a ride-in, as it's in the park). They will be conducting a tour of the WWII Coastal Artillery Casemate "Battery 519" at 2pm on Saturday. It's time well spent. As I'm a volunteer at Fort Miles (as is RdKryton), I can lead a tour around the grounds (except for Battery 519) any time. In fact, the CO of Fort Miles plans to join us at the rally on Sunday (he's working there on Saturday).
I will say this, for securing your bikes overnight, bring a good lock just in case. This hasn't been finalized yet, but I'm trying to get permission for our bikes to be secured inside Battery Smith (next to the Biden Center) Saturday night. Nothing like having your bike behind steel doors, 10 feet of concrete above, below and beside, all under 30 feet of sand dunes.

Okay, so now that the venue is confirmed, who all is interested?

The Whizzer guru is coming!!!

I just got off the phone with Quenton. He is coming. I can't wait to see some of the neat things he is bringing. I hope we get enough people to come to make it worth his while to make the long trip. I am looking forward to finally meeting him in person. He has helped me so much that I want to thank him in person. He told me he is bringing some interesting stuff. I feel like a kid on Christmas. lol

I can't wait
Jim
