Modifying a Monark Fork

I don't like the way the curved springer forks look. I know they are very popular, but I just don't like them. Anyway, I DO like the looks of the Monark springer forks, but apparently the replica ones are flimsy.

Today I ran across THIS picture:

Looks like someone took a beefy stock fork and paired it with the springer portion of the Monark fork. My Worksman fork is very beefy, so this solution would be perfect if the sizes are right.

Anyone else around here "modify" a Monark in this fashion?

Oh, and I know FELT makes a great looking fork called the Abraham Linkage, but Felt forks won't fit a Worksman.
 
What causes rings to go out (break). Do u need a special tool to put them on?

my understanding is that they are very weak at the top of the fork where the legs join to the top (the "head"?). I saw a photo of one where it just snapped like a twig.
