Has anyone seen a Mtn bike frame with an old school springer front end? Im getting ready to order one for mine. Just would like to see some pics of someone else's, if there is any. O, btw I decided just to start building of my Mtn frame. Got it taken apart and sanded yesterday and painted it today. I went with a olive drab color. Not excactly what shade i was looking for, but its close enough

    :whistling:

nope never seen one before but picturing it in my mind it would look pretty rad.. you'll probably get a nice utilitarian look out of your bike. :)

yea I like the ol school looks, but finding an older cruiser bike around here has been unsuccessful. So I just decided to try to get the looks from the mtn frame

No, thats not the type of springer forks Im looking for. The type Im talking about are the ones that everyone puts on their cruiser bikes

No reason it can't work. Should be an interesting blend. If you're using a standard mountain bike frame then it will probably have more of a "V"
for an easier engine mount. Road bikes have this as well but by their very nature, the center tube is of a smaller gauge. (meant to be lighter)
A mountain bike will have a more rounded, heavier center tube at a
45 degrees angle unlike most cruiser frames that are curved.
Keep us posted on how things are going and maybe post some pics
when you're a little further along. Godspeed!

I just repainted the frame. Decided to go gloss black instead. Now I need to figure out how to post pictures.

Good looking frame! Now....After it dries I will be able to come by
and scrape the paint right off using my fingernail. You need to use
some urethane my friend. 2 coats (at least) applied with a soft brush.
None of that spray stuff - it doesn't work. Frame looks good!

Allow 5-6 hours to dry between coats and then another
24 hours to dry after you've applied the last coat.

You just need to know what kind of paint to buy. Me being an aircraft painter, I'm pretty good at choosing the right paint for the job.

    Thanks for the compliment.

AH.....Sounds like I should be getting some direction from YOU then!
I will be keeping that in mind for my next build. Can't wait to see that
bike when you put those forks on. Should look pretty sweet!

    Well Its Here...!

Just what we all have been waiting for. My ol school springer front end came today and I got it installed. The wheels and seat in pics are just for mock up. Ill be getting new wheels and a spring seat. I took my seat post to a welder today, I would've just done it myself, but I dont have a welder. I took and measured 3in. down from the top of the post and cut it off, I will be adding a 1.5in wide x 5in long 3/8in thick piece of flat stock and welding the cut tubes to that in a offset, kinda like what piratecycles.com sells. Hope everyone enjoys. God Bless

    Project Update...

I got my front disc brake conversion installed & I got my modified seat post and new spring seat mounted. Its a slow process due to having to order everything and wait for it to be shipped. Wished there was a custom bike store here in GA that does the builds

as someone who is NOT an aircraft painter, what polyurethane do you recommend to use over a rattle-can paint job? I did several coats of primer, then paint, and then clear coat as well with just Rustoleum rattle can paint, but I will cry if everything chips. (I'm still waiting on some parts, so the bike isn't assembled yet). I did use car wax over the paint as extra protection... (I know that would have to be cleaned off before adding the poly)

and where did you get your fork? I want a springer fork of some kind, and it's GOTTA be a good one.
