Hello everybody....Just finished my NE5 whizzer kit project. I was going to paint it all up nice but after finishing it I kinda like the Ratty look...Here's some information on the build:
I started with a new NE5 kit I got from a guy who got it from his deceased neighbor's wife (the old guy passed away before ever getting to use it). After reading here about Quenton's upgrades I sent him the cylinder and head for his treatment and installed his mushroom lifters.
The bike was assembled using an early Roadmaster frame, Shelby shockease fork and a new set of Worksman heavy duty wheels. I used an old Delta battery box to hold the coil, ignition and wiring. I chose not to use a battery, just wired to the voltage regulator under the tank and back to the lights. The lights work fine this way.
I used an old Harley 30w highway light for the headlight and a repro Vincent 10w stop/tail light. I ran the kill switch and front brake switch wiring inside the handlebars for a cleaner look. I used the kit throttle but cut the brake lever off and buffed the black paint off for a vintage look. I also cut the motorcross looking lips off the grips to look more vintage. I made and adapter to mount the original style belt cover. I adapted the original Roadmaster front fender to fit on the rear wheel. I chose to use the flex exhaust (love the look).
I have a few plans for some minor changes like a rattier seat and such. I've ridden the bike a few miles and it runs great. The little engine sounds sweet especially at low rpms up a grade. It seems to have plenty of power but I haven't opened it up yet due to break in. Many Thanks to Quenton for answering all my questions no matter when I called him...He's a prince of a guy for sure. Hope ya'll enjoy the pictures...Do you think I should paint it or leave it Ratty??
