I've been interested in putting together a motorized bike for a while and I recently found a weed eater with a clutch and a working motor that someone on my street was throwing out. I'm also a fan of three-speed (internal geared) bicycle hubs and I would like to incorporate one into the build I'm planning. The bike I'm using is a folding bike with 14" wheels. I want to avoid a friction drive solution so I figured a small wheeled bike would require less of a gear reduction. The idea is to drive the shell of a bare 3-speed hub with a belt, and use the 3-speed's sprocket to drive a large chain wheel mounted on the left side of the bike's rear wheel.
