hi,
I am new to this concept. Is riding a electric or gas powered bike legal in Cal with out a drivers lisc. Is this a good idea for under 18? Is it good idea/legal for an adult with a suspended drivers lisc? Do you have to wear a helmet? Good idea to wear one I know, but I want to know the rules.

Hi Carolyn

Electric bikes do not require a drivers license but you need to use a bicycle helmet
to be legal even if you are over 16/18?

Motorized bicycles have the following requirements.....

M2 drivers license or better for the operator.
You can use a temporary M2 license if you don't drive at night.

DOT motorcycle helmet

Moped plate for the bike/copy of reg on bike or operator

No insurance required
No title issued

Less than 2 gross brake HP
Single cylinder
Less than 30 mph on level ground

capable of human propulsion i.e. pedals
automatic transmission of no more than 2 speeds. incapable of being manually shifted.

Rides in bike lane, obeys all traffic laws
Single rider ONLY

It takes a M2 lisc? where do you get that? If you already have a cal drivers lisc., but, it is suspended, can you even get an M2 lisc?
Looks like I will be looking for a electric bike. And wearing a helmet.
Now I know where to start the search. Thanks for the info.

M2 is the motorcycle endorsement for your CA drivers license and
you can't get one if your DL has been suspended.

You can probably get away with a lot depending upon the cops
where you live but if you get caught with no DL because of a DUI
you will get the book thrown at you......

A motorized skateboard would be asking for trouble and not
very practical as well as being downright dangerous...
