Would it be okay to change your oil every 9000 if useing good synthetic?

    It all depends.

If you primarily drive at highway speeds, and put a lot of miles on your car, I'd say yes.
My company car goes 8-10K between oil changes (conventional oil) and the engine internals are clean.

If you drive a lot of short trips or in dusty conditions, I would not recommend extended intervals.

If you change your oil filter every 4,000 ~ 4,500 miles... I'm pretty sure you could go 100,000 miles at a time without completely flushing the oil, only topping off after changing the filter.

It's all about quality, not quantity.

I start with Mobil 1 synthetic ($6.00 + a quart), and on the Robin/Subaru, drained it after a couple of tanks of gas, again at maybe 200 & 500, now will start stretching it out.

Babying it at the beginning, getting the ring seated, depends on that initial oil and throttle finesse. These engines ALWAYS gain strength after hundreds of miles are completed.

It only takes maybe 50-70 cc per change.
