pedal extenders

What exactly are 'pedal extenders' I have never heard of them for bicycles or are you referring to the pedal extenders for automotive application?

The screw into the crank where the pedal does, the you screw the pedal into them so that the pedal sticks out a bit further from the bike midline. I may get some as I am using a standard width crank on my 4 stroke frame mount.
