Pirate Cycles reed valve intake for China style 2-stroke bicycle engine

    Does anyone know if Pirate Cycles are selling their reed valve intake for Chinese 2-stroke bicycle engines as a seperate part.

    I've emailed Pirate Cycles about 2 weeks ago but have not received a response.

    Basically i want one, ASAP

    Holy cow! I looked at pirate cycles site and indeed did find a mention of a reed kit, albeit in "pre-release" stage.

    But it kind of makes me wonder - even though a dellorto carb would undoubtedly bring some performance gains, would a reed set up actually do anything noticeable on a piston port engine???

    If it is ported for a reed setup like it will be yes.
    The reed valve is gonna make a huge difference

    Anyway heres what we have cooking. My engineer Ridingrich/AKA 210061741 and myself will check back often to answer questions you may have on this thread. If this pre release is up here already I do appologise. I did not post it.

    First Pirate Cycles would like to thank all of the proud Pirate
    supporters for your business. It is because of you, we can bring this
    wonderful addition to the motor bicycling community.

    We are very proud to say this is a joint venture with contributions from
    several vendors and also includes the work of a few very talented
    members.

    The true teamwork demonstrated here is a respectable example of how
    everyone....vendors and enthusiast alike benefit from the result of
    working together.

    Credit goes to all of the following contributors for the success of this
    project.

    PIRATE POWER SPECIAL HIGH PERFORMANCE ENGINES

    Keep in mind we are currently in the testing stage and these
    configurations may change.
    We also would like to encourage the recommendations of the community to
    bring you more of what you want. Here is the lineup.

    All kits will be built from the bottom end up.
    You won't find the usual metal chips and dust or need to put oil in your
    crankcase.
    These motors will be fully assembled with surgical precision.

    We are testing high end gaskets including a full copper gasket set.

    All engines will have top quality Main Bearings designed for higher rpm
    and tougher loads.

    The standard engine case and cover hardware will be replaced with
    quality socket head cap screws. ( Put away the screwdriver get out the
    allen wrench )

    The clutch shaft spring will be adjusted properly. ( no more messin with
    that star nut )

    The small end needle bearing will be the wider PK version.

    The big end bearing will be the much more reliable cage-less CROWDED
    version.

    All engines will be fully leak tested ensuring the highest quality.

    We will offer limited warranty on the main engine components and
    craftsmanship.
    What exactly dose that mean ????
    If you rev your engine WOT with no load till the paint starts smoking
    you're out of luck.
    If you mount it poorly and rip it off the bike you're out of luck.
    Other than that, as usual Pirate Cycles outstanding customer service
    will be provided.

    We will also give you your very own Pirate T-Shirt to
    sport around town wile all your friends try to keep up with you.



    STAGE 1 high performance kit

    This kit is designed for the enthusiast who is looking for a Reliable
    Quality Engine Kit.
    The cost is being kept to a minimum yet the quality is very high.

    This motor will include all of the above.
    All of that and there is still more........

    Custom Billet Machined High Compression Head
    made exclusively for Pirate Cycles PPS motor.
    You won't find it anywhere but here.

    A very nicely ported cylinder.
    Hand crafted with the utmost care and precision.
    We can put the punch where you want it.

    High quality Billet Intake provided
    by Creative Engineering. Jim big thanks! We love your work.
    The clutch post will be pre-cut for clearance.

    On a final note, for these kits we can supply a fitted Clutch Pulley
    System to replace the standard clutch barrel for ease of use.
    We will work with SBP to ensure adaptability even with the Shift Kit.

    It will be possible to add the billet clutch actuator from Creative
    Engineering to this motor kit. Maybe a spring run of those of
    those as well? We are glad to fill the supply if there is
    a demand for a product.
    The clutch pulley and billet lever are offered as add on options.
    Inclusiveness of these and other add on options within a kit will be
    determined by demand.

    You can try adapting a reed valve from a chainsaw motor. Search the site for "reed" and you will find many posts where members have adapted or completely fabbed a reed valve intake.

    3X the cooling fin surface area...correct squish band, perfectly tangent, (flush), spark plug, and a concentric cylinder register make this head a real performance knocker for the PK80 engine.


    Thank Jim from Creative engineering for this wonderful addition to the industry. We also have one coming for the GT5 owners.

    Hi Justin

    I've looked at the slant angle sparkplug position on the billet cylinder head and the thought crossed my mind whether it would be possible to mirror image a second sparkplug on the opposite side of the cylinder head for better combustion and redundancy purposes, as is common in aviation piston engines.

    There is room in the magneto recess area for a second magneto coil to fire a secondary CDI.

    I know this question may not be worthy of consideration, as your team have already done their research, but i'm curious if the possibility exists for this modification.

    A lot of research went into the design of the head.
    I'm sure if it was nessessary it would have been done.
    Could be possible but a lot of work for an extra plug that really isn't needed.

    We have a complete package here.
    Built up bottom end with quality bearings and gaskets.
    ported cylinder and a custom expansion chamber to match the porting.
    Carb and reed intake on stage 3.

    You can put a reed block on there but it will never perform like a cylinder that is designed and ported for it.

    Do you have any spy pics of the reed block setup.
    If you don't can you sneak into the workshop under the cover of darkness and get a few hi-res photos.

    It's an information age and i need pictorial information on my next purchase.

    Currently we are midstream of the testing phase.

    We want to ensure these kits are of the highest quality.

    We are all very excited and estimate a full release by this spring or sooner.

    I thought we talked about this urge your feeling in our emails.

    So far Fabian has had many suggestions on how to speed things up.
    First he says we could hire Mexican helpers to speed things up.
    Then he suggested we could all work around the clock to speed things up.
    Now he wants Rich to sneak into the workshop under the cover of darkness and get a few hi-res photos for his viewing pleasure.
    Hes is also begging us to take his money so we are then indebted to him.


    Fabian We have video surveillance, dogs, and guns. Stay where you are. We will ship to you. If I see a guy with a sheet and a camera going into our lab I will know its you. I will report you to the forum after I shoot you in the butt with rock salt.. LOL

    Be patient Fabian, Good things are worth the wait. Promise!!

    i love the stage 3 sounds better than my stage 2 hp1 50cc rse .
    mind i see u made ur billett heads diff to rse
    my 50 has billett head ,cover an inlet
    ceramic piston

    The chineese work very very fast.
    And we know what there sending us.

    Believe me i want to show you guys and get theses motors available as quickly as possible.

    But we aren't going to resort to the mexican workers and i don't want shot in the butt with rock salt.

    If we rush you could miss out on some of the finer finishing touches.
    We aren't leaving anything to be desired on this one.

    I will do my bets to keep you guys up to date.

    The reed valve sounds most interesting. Will it be of benefit on a stock, unported motor or will it add restriction?

    Thats a good question.

    Honestly the cylinder needs to be ported for a reed valve.

    Allthough you may benifit with a stock porting it might not work at all.

    Anyway there is a possibility we will be putting the reed valve in the Case.

    Case inducted intake.

    Pretty much what I thought with a reed block on the inlet.

    Case induction sounds good. Might be hard to implement, though.
    What would happen to the stock inlet port on the barrel? A sealing plate?

    I've been banging on about converting the HT engine to a reed valve, case induction system, using a variable jet Walbro screw needle carburettor.

    Now we are talking - all that's needed to complete the picture is a laptop programable digital fuel injection and ignition setup.

    Dammit - i can't wait for those Pirate Cycle boys to get with the program.
    Rich, i'm going to use telekinesis and teleport my thoughts into Justin's head.
    This is frought with danger though because the last time i tried something similar, i got the area code and content wrong, sending a projection of Taylor Swift to a Venice Beach preacher giving religious speach.
