shifter kit...to expensive?

Discussion in 'Frame Mounted Engines' started by skatingsamurai, Dec 29, 2008.

  1. so i am really considering the purchase of this jackshaft shifter kit. but my big problem is that its so expensive. are there any testimonials for durability of the kit? is it worth the money?

how might i go about finding the parts for this kit myself if i wanted to build something similar??

    Yes, its worth the money.

You wouldn't save money buying the parts yourself. You would have to fabricate a mount system and the time used to do so would be better served elsewhere.

People have tried to do it themselves. Most end up buying some parts from us. Then they buy some more parts from us. Then they never quite get done. $250+ later, still not done. I'm not saying someone with a mill, etc couldn't fab the parts, get them powder coated, find and buy the purchased stuff, etc....even if your time is worth $0.00 per hour, it's still a tie or worse.

As for durability, I'm pretty confident our current design will outlast the engine.

I thought about it long and hard. The fact that the kit includes the freewheel crank set up was what sold me. The headache involved in trying to save $50 or so is not worth it.
I'm now wondering if the pullstart ($60 Canadian) would be a good thing to go with the jackshaft kit.

Rather than sugarplums, visions of a Sick Bikes Parts shifter kit for my 4 stroke with an internally geared hub and a disk brake for the rear and a drum for the front fill my head...the HoughMade '71' is never done!

Pablo is right the cost o the powder coating alone makes the kit a gret value plus you have to factor in how much your time is worth to try and make something that even comes remotly close to it I haven't purchased it yet but I am planning to once I save up for all the parts besides I had a cuple questions and the customer service was second to none so far. The guys have been great answering my question that alone is worth the price on it.
HoughMade you sond like you have the same idea as me but I am toying with doing that to a 2 stroke kit. I will let everyone know when I get all my parts and start my build.
    Take care Jim

Check out folk's pics on the bike sites, videos on you tube, etc.

We keep selling out, so they are out there. Only a small percentage of people take and post pictures I guess.
