Something gets smacked before tdc and prevents a full rotation on predator 212

    Before I start breaking down this engine, can someone more experienced with 4 strokes give me some kind of idea of what to look for?

    Does it do that when you pull the cord?

    That almost eliminates a starter pawl issue, but take the pull start cover off (you have to take it off anyway).Check the coil see if its hitting the flywheel.If its clear then you'll have to really take it apart.

    it wasn't that, I'd have been able to find that easily. I don't know what the previous owner was doing with it but I ended up finding a washer in the cylinder.

    fortunately the cylinder, piston, and head are made of harder stuff than whatever the washer was made of, there isn't any visible damage and it's running good and strong now. I'm definitely going to have to lap the valves whenever I get a chance, I hate to think about how that got in there.
