So I was thinking of either buying a springer fork with a crown extension or making my own ...

In theory I think this should work:

    20" bmx fork

Springer fork (everything BUT fork bars will be used)

custom make the fork/springer arm (?), wheel mount using a 26" rim (if it looks stupid I can swap down ... all I have is a 26" and 20" front for ref at the moment).

SO... hopefully this makes sense, WILL this ruin my front suspension? Anything I need to take into account/precautions? I'm not going to put in a front brake. At most this will be an A to B vehicle, probably upgrades (performance) here and there but nothing fancy ... a ratrod to be honest.

Adding DIY linked parts makes the front end more flimsy and therefore more unstable at speed. For just putting around with lots of shiney chrome it should be OK though.
