What purpose does the hub adapter for the sCHWINN Stingray? Tire/chain clearence? To make the hub hole smaller type a deal? Any help would be much appreciated!!+!

2 purposes: 1 to clear tire 2 easier than rubber and spokes to center and true on wheel
that said , I cleared the tire on my deviate with 5 (yes,five) rubber rings on the sprocket side and it is still not as good as it should be after trying approx 10 times ... but it does work but my tire is only 3 not 4.5 in wide

well my hub is really wide too...so im thinking 3/8 an inch of rubber will get the sprocket out there. But i think I will need like 6" diameter rubber circles cuz the spokes angle inward so the added diameter of the ruber will help not break spokes or bending sprockets when I tighten on the longer bolts. Catch my drift
