Too loud! Would this work?

I have thus expansion chamber on my bike and love it but it is obnoxiously loud and draws unwanted attention. Could I take the stock muffler and somehow attach to end of the expansion pipe? Of course I could, but would it shut this thing up without killing too much power?
Or is there any cheap bolt on silencers that work?
    Thanks in advance
    Mike

I would just look into a Briggs cigar muffler

my myself and i used to hack the orig muffler halfway up its curved "bell". all the baffles would then slide straight out the rear. welded the can onto the tuned pipe, the cut in the bell only allowing it to go on so far... if you cut that bell off, the outer can is a tad too large, slides on to the pipe too far. you need volume to reduce the volume!:p ha ha. you need size to cut the noise ;)

have the outlet/stinger of tuned pipe point to one side of can, remove and replace the muffler outlet pipe with 13-16mm tubing rather than the stock 10mm stuff... couple of stainless steel scouring pads can be poked in there, but not really necessary. could breathe, didnt affect the pipes backpressure, and cut the noise right down.

cutting the stinger off the tuned pipe and poking it all the way in, and rewelding works a treat too. you may need a slightly longer piece of pipe.

image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg well I decided to go ahead and try it. Went to hardware store looking for a piece of hose or a coupling to mate the chamber tip to the stick baffle end. I ended up finding thus for $6. It's some sort of compression fitting but luckily for me both ends are the same size and this fit snug and when tightened down. It's snug Asa bug!
Results: This bike went from very sweet sounding but have to say a bit obnoxiously loud to stealth like. Next MOD is how do I quiet this clanky motor up now? All I hear now is the sounds of the tensioner, gears etc... Need to do something.
Did a base run with out baffle and did 34.4 with shut off at marked spot. ( true top is 36.7 so far.)Street sign. 10 minutes later I did same exact run and pulled a 34.2. So nothing lost off top end and almost want to say it has more low end grunt. Liked the results so I literally wrapped it up and called it a day!

A very simple and effective MOD that cost me $6 and hack sawing my left over stock pipe. Got what I was looking/listening for without sacrificing any power loss. I'm almost considering bulling out inner baffle and drilling a few holes to get a little sound back.
Note to self: where damn gloves next time you wrap your pipe with fiberglass tape. Thus is the only negative if the day. hands are itchy as a mother right now.

Now, how do you quiet the motor up? All those metal sounds are driving me nuts now.
Going to do a throttle chop and check plug but dut do you think this would effect jetting in any manner. Would think if anything, a slight richer. Thoughts!

haha, you should hear my motorbike...kachunk kachunk, rattle rattle, ting pop...the works :) two strokes are inherently noisy :) more gearbox noise than engine noise.

the fibreglass...i just have memories of my neighbour wiping her derriere with insulation when we was kids...she never did that again!

oh..and if tempted to refurbish a fibreglass kayak, or boat? get disposable paper overalls! or dont bother, and make an epoxy one... old polyester resin never sticks to new stuff properly. epoxy sticks to anything :) within reason...

Looks good. I got a stock pipe and took all the in side out put a round coin just in the end on a hinge so I can open it up for louder and shut it for no sound and shuts so much I can stop the motor with it best of both

I love that Mod. Only wish you told me before I finished wrapping that thing. This time the gloves will be on with long sleeves.
What holds it in place I.e. When closed or open? Does it somehow lock in position or us it a loosen, change position and tighten type system. Would be real cool if could adjust on the fly. Maybe use some sort of cable/locking clutch system where it could be open but even as you tide you pull in and leave in lock position to close. Not sure if I want to go that far but would be nice to just reach down and just flip it open or close with no tools. Let know how yours works.
I take it you leave jetting as Is As its most likely a very minimal change.

FYI. The water and baking soda paste on hands worked well to relieve the fiberglass incident. Make a paste, cover glands, let dry and rinse. But still wrapping myself up the next time.

After looking at your pic closer, it looks like there's a lever and a spring.
    More details DIY if possible.
I read to glue mousepad or equivalent to the inside of some of the covers. To quiet these rattle nixes up. I assume only the cover that goes over drive side or right side clutch cover and or all 3?? Have to look that up again. I just saw the dampener kit from sick bikes. So all 3 covers get it. I guess the alternative us cutting up some mouse pad and adding. Good high heat adhesive. I like that kit but I don't want to wait. Going to hit Office Depot next.
    Love it.
    Thanks

It's just a gear cable I had it to a gear changer and it works on the fly the spring is to make it open. I have got a different changer now I think it's better no gears on it it's actually a choke lever off a carby you just open or close as much as you like and it stays there . I tried some diy dampers for the covers and it works well tell I found them little pieces.

I made like 5 different ones like the end cap on a stock muffler open like a truck has got flaps. And I got a hinge took off my end cap and made the hinge the flap thay got holes allready and you can bolt it to your muffler I got a welder so it's like super glue for me eny thing that moves gets welded And ensted of guting a stock one my one in the pic is bed frame so it's easier and a little bigger. And I am meant to put a hole in my one coz when I shut it all the way it blows the gaskets and stalls but it is nice to be able to if necessary ever since I made my first one now I got one on all my bikes. And the idea was to make just the last section flap spring cable coming off. Make it 2 Inc long and able to fit on all stock mufflers
Sorry one more thing I hade that flap muffler in the pic coming off the bottom of the headers on my honda prelude when you hit v tec it made every one Def and when driving normal it's loud fart so put it back on the bike. Good luck

Just did a few more test runs. I removed the baffle and yes it's louder all though not as loud as just the expansion chamber pipe and ran a 32.4mph. Put back on baffle and ran a 34.7mph and a bit more pep/bottom end. Dud done thrittle chops and possibly could move down from my current 64 to a 63 jet.ialso removed all 3 covers and nought some 1/4" cork board sheets and made some dampeners fir them. Gave them gluing now and hopefully will remove some of that clackity black sound. Can I put Greece on the clutch side cover on the gears?ovoidly I will on the drive side. I also noticed that when I remove the magneto cover, the bolt had worn a spot into the cover and some metal shavings were there. I have different overs than stock so possibly not enough clearance. I went ahead and bored it out a bit more so hopefully it doesn't touch anymore.
I don't have a welder so will look at what Zi can do or if I can find someone who can. Parts look cheap enough. :)
I do love the sound when it's opened, even if it looses . 10% hp.
I want to get this finished so I can start my electric build. I know even less about electricity!
    Thanks
    Mike
