So I thought we could use a thread on the topic. I'll start with my rack.
I use a Graber "Scout" rack. It's a simple rack designed to carry two bikes, but I only ever carry one on it. I believe the weight rating is around 75lbs, and that works well with any of my motorized bikes except my Whizzer. That bike weighs in at 100lbs.
The Scout might be out of production, as I bought mine back in 2001 or 2002. At that time it had an MSRP of $100, but the bike shop I bought mine at sold them for $59.99.
It adjusts to fit a lot of vehicles, in fact I use it on both of my cars (a Ford Probe and an Escort Station Wagon) without any difficulty. I do, however, add a couple extra safety straps when I'm carrying an MB, as they are a bit closer to the 75lb weight limit.
If I was to rate it on a 1 to 5 scale, with 1 being junk and 5 being perfection, I'd give it a 3. All in all, it's an adequate rack without any frills.
...Didn't have a chance to get a bike carrier for the back of my car.
...Any suggestions for a strap on car rack are appreciated, (before I waste my money)!...
