I'm getting the friction drive kit from BMP and dig the 4-stroke Honda GX35! I would like to get an engine with a little more power though -- at least 2 HP (no more than 3.5). So what's the next step up in 4-strokes with the correct clutch rotor (76-78mm)?

BikeMotorParts has changed the engine channel from 1/4" thick
    aluminum extrusion to bent steel
please let us know how that looks and works quality wise
    when you get yours
I don't know of any other small 4 stroke engine that meets your
The Robbin / Subaru 35cc is about the same as the gx35

The Honda GX 50 ( 5/8" shaft ) needs a clutch kit from Staton and is kind of
    bulky for a friction drive
Staton sells it as a complete kit too

There is a Honda 50 chinese clone with a 78 mmm clutch from Dax
    if any are even available

I would like to know of any other 4 stroke 76 mm clutch motors too

I have an r/s eho35 on a gebe and a gx35 on a staton friction drive. he r/s eho35 is better. Pay a few bucks and get the eho35.

If you want more power on your friction drive, go two stroke. The TLE43 is 2.2 HP and works very well.

The Honda GX 35 is now made in China. Go figure, even the Japanese go to China to get things made cheaper. It no longer has a cast iron sleeve in the cylinder. The Robin/Subaru EHO 35 is made in Japan and has a cast iron sleeve. This equals a much longer engine life.

China? Thailand? whats the difference eh?
    Get your facts straight.....
The Honda is made in Thailand in a Japanese designed and built
    factory with Japanese quality control

I don't know that the Honda gx31 or gx35 ever had a cast iron liner
I have a GX31 which the GX35 was upgraded from
I haven't needed to take it apart to see

I am sure the Honda will last for a loooonng time and
maybe the Subaru is a "better" motor but so what?

I am not sure why, all I can say is that the eho35 is gutsy as heck and although the gx35 is no dog it does not have the same power.

Could you link me to the clutch kit on the staton website? I can't seem to find it, and Dave Staton just sent me a link to the main site in reply when I asked him about the whole thing (I don't think he had time to actually read my e-mail).

Be warned that the U bracket on the BikeMotorParts kit that
holds the engine channel is very flimsy and the additional weight
of the Honda 50 and clutch will tweak it even more

Also they use a bent steel engine channel now

The Staton friction drive U bracket is much sturdier

Read the BikeMotorParts review in the review forum
